New SuperServer provides open platform software, Intel Xeon Scalable processors, GPUs, FPGAs, and IP65-rated protective enclosures for open-air access network-compliant base station deployments installed on poles

Global leader in enterprise computing, storage and networking solutions and green computing technology Super Micro Computer, Inc. (SMCI) announces new solution for 5G base station deployment, using second-based Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors, partner software compliant with Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN), and fully configurable SuperServers capable of operating in harsh environments. These features accelerate the development of mobile networks from proprietary hardware / software to 5G installed open source software and classified hardware.

Supermicro's new SuperServer solution provides 5G network infrastructure with maximum deployment flexibility and efficient total cost of ownership (TCO). "

 
 

 

Supermicro's two new systems are the first servers for 5G, Intelligent Edge, and other embedded applications based on the second-generation Intel Xeon processors. The E403-9P-FN2T is built for demanding environments and includes three PCI-E slots for GPU and FPGA acceleration cards. The compact 1U 1019P-FHN2T is well-suited for controlled environments, such as micro data centers and converted central office locations, and has two full-height, full-length PCI-E slots.

With these expansion slots, Supermicro can provide real-time edge AI inference through GPU cards, and use Intel FPGA programmable acceleration card N3000 to accelerate 5G RAN software and open standard site communication. These new servers complement Supermicro's successful Xeon D-based 1019D and E403 models. Supermicro is developing an IP65-rated protective enclosure to meet the needs of outdoor environments, such as base stations and micro-cellular sites.

Supermicro is a market leader in providing high-performance, efficient open hardware server platforms, extending data center-level remote management to edge computing platforms, and has extensive experience with virtualization and containers, including software such as Kubernetes and VMware. The new 5G architecture is based on an open hardware platform with standardized interface connections and virtualized network elements. Supermicro joins the O-RAN Alliance to help build a cloud-native, open 5G RAN architecture. These solutions will also support the transition from 4G networks to 5G.

The 5G core network has moved to a virtualization model that runs on data center hardware. Supermicro's resource-saving architecture provides innovative computing platforms such as high-performance multi-node BigTwin ™ and high-density SuperBlade® and MicroBlade ™ products. These systems take advantage of shared cooling and efficient power, and employ a classification structure to enable the latest upgrades without the need to waste and replace entire server racks.
